The National Education Policy of India 2020 (NEP 2020), approved by the Union Cabinet of India on 29 July 2020, outlines the vision of the new education system of India. It replaces the previous National Policy on Education, 1986. The vision of the policy is to build an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India by providing high-quality education to all, thereby making India a global knowledge superpower.
According to India's new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, 10+2 schooling system in India is set to be replaced by a new 5+3+3+4 system in the following stages
1. Foundational Stage (5 Years):

Traditional learning has been a cornerstone of education in India for many years. However, the new NEP-2020 policy reforms are not incremental – they are transformational and thus schools need a system that will easily transition them to be NEP-ready. This transition will help schools grow by enhancing their credibility, driving admissions and winning the trust of parents.
Curriculum and pedagogy should be transformed to minimize rote learning and instead, encourage holistic development and 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, scientific temper, communication, collaboration, multilingualism, problem-solving, ethics, social responsibility, and digital literacy.
The content and process of school education will be reoriented to develop holistic learners. Stimulating learning experiences will be offered through effective pedagogical practices.
The curricular and pedagogical structure and the curricular framework for school education will be guided by a 5+3+3+4 design:
The early years are critical and hence there is a need to ensure quality early childhood care and education for all children between 3-6 years with new initiatives. There will be special attention paid to early language and mathematics in Grades 1-5. The Policy aims to ensure that every student in Grade 5 and beyond must achieve foundational literacy and numeracy by 2025.
NEP proposes an emphasis on conceptual understanding rather than rote learning and learning for exams. NCF recommends that the content must be sensorily engaging, keeping in mind that each child has a unique way of learning and needs to experience concepts through multiple pathways of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell to help stimulate the brain.
Assessment will be transformed to support student development. All examinations (including Board examinations) will test core concepts and skills, along with higher-order capacities. By 2025, assessment at the middle school level and above will be through adaptive computerized testing.
